Recruits at Beantown Classic

Well I mentioned yesterday about Mike Pereira and Conor Sheary’s upcoming season in the New England prep league, but they both recently participated in the Beantown Classic tournament.  Pereira and Sheary played against a number of current college prospects as well as committed recruits from schools like BC, Harvard, Colgate, and others.  Pereira impressed by being the tournament’s leading scorer with 2 goals and 6 assists in the 5 games.  Sheary had a good showing as well with 3 goals and 2 assists putting him tied for 7th in tourney scoring.  Defenseman Colin Shea participated as well and had 2 goals and an assist.

So to the surprise of no one  we finally got the formal announcement of the BU-BC outdoor game at Fenway and with that both teams were able to release their full schedules.  Interestingly, UMass and BU play each other prior to three very key games on the Terriers’ schedule.  After playing two exhibitions, one against a CIS the other against the US National Development Team, BU will open their season at the Mullins on 10/16.  BU’s next game will be their first home game against Notre Dame where they’ll raise their 5th banner.  The teams will match up again the day after New Year’s a week prior to the Frozen Fenway game or whatever they’re calling it.  The final matchup will be on 1/29 just before the first Beanpot Monday.  What does this mean?  Nothing.  I’ve never believed in the thinking that it’s to UMass’ benefit/disadvantage to get Team X right before/between/after the Beanpot.  I just found it interesting how the schedule worked out.
