Polls

From now on I’ll be posting each Monday night (when possible) to update everyone on the weekly polls and Hockey East awards if applicable.

UMass makes its first appearance in the USCHO poll, checking in at #17.  The Minutemen are still on the outside looking in of the USA Today/USA Hockey poll as they’re currently second in the also receiving votes category.

The team will be facing the Hockey East POTW this coming weekend as Friar forward Matt Bergland won the honor with his four goal weekend.  Justin Braun and James Marcou are both listed as Top Performers while David Boehm, Mike Marcou, and Matt Irwin are all named in the milestones section.

    Once again, a terrible publication by USCHO. Polls shouldn’t be running this early in the year, especially when some teams (Ivies) haven’t even started playing, and some of them are in the Top 10. Wisconsin gets the 19 spot at 1-2-1 and BU is 1-2 and almost lost to Michigan and still is at 4? Ferris State at 4-1 and unranked, terrible.

      BU should have lost to Michigan.

      I was not that impressed by the Yippy Dogs, they may drop after this weekend, provided Lowell takes shots and cleans up rebounds.

      Early or pre-season polls don’t bother me as long as they have some kind of sense to them. Yale GAINING first place votes despite not even playing an exhibition game so far is mind boggling.

        That’s exactly what I mean. I know they had a good season last year and return some pretty good players like Sean Backman and such, but after losing Alec Richards, making their goaltending questionable and the fact that they haven’t even skated yet makes me think the polls are a little B.S.

        To be fair, Yale played Dartmouth in a scrimmage in Hanover on Sunday and won 4-2…

        Who pays attention to polls this early in the season anyway? It’s the ones in March that count.

    One more thing I want to add to this if I may is that I am pleased that the Goofers are out of the poll this week. Even having them receive as many votes as they did makes me wonder about bias. They have been shutout in 3 out 4 games, and players like Chay Genoway and Rhett Rhakhshani are having field days against them. I say yank Kangas, or they aren’t gonna be a factor in the WCHA.

    I agree. Yale getting a first place vote without playing a game is a little insane. Shouldn’t be in a season poll until you play a game. Though I agree and understand polls don’t matter at all until after Jan/Feb.
