Marcou Nat’l POTM Runner-Up; Pereira Transfers; Bracketology? Seriously?

First off, a very happy Veteran’s Day and thank you to all that have served.  Today is as good a day as any to think about contributing to Peter Trovat0’s Massachusetts Soldiers Legacy Fund.

James Marcou was named as runner-up for the National Player of the Month for October by the Hockey Commissioner’s Association.  Marcou put up 3 goals and 10 assists in 13 games last month.  Denver goaltender Marc Cheverie was the winner of the award.

USHR is reporting that recruit Mike Pereira will be transferring from South Kent to The Gunnery as a result of the coaching change at Kent.  Gunnery was 23-6-4 last season and lost in the semifinals of the prep championship.  If the teams are similar this year it could give Pereira the chance to skate with some better players since South Kent was 19-13-1 last season.  I believe Gunnery will be backstopped by Alex Vazzano again this season, a Vermont recruit who is getting some interest in NHL Central Scouting circles.

In other recruiting news today is the beginning of the fall signing period for new recruits.  Based on the information available to me the school is still waiting for signed Letter of Intents from John Parker, Mike Pereira, Kevin Boyle, Conor Sheary, and Joel Hanley.

From the way, way, way, incredibly way too early department comes this blog from Jason Moy over on USCHO detailing the season’s first look at a potential bracket for the tournament.  I find this sort of talk ridiculously interesting.  So for those wondering, UMass is slotted as the 6th overall seed and is projected to take on Colorado College in the Worcester regional.  Anyone know if they allow tailgating in the DCU Center parking garage?

The Warrior Rink Rat blog has an interesting look at scoring on the upswing in Hockey East.

  1. According to Pointstreak, Pereria was added to the Lincoln Stars roster.

Not sure what is going on, or who to believe.

    • Thanks for the info. Yes, it’s certainly a confusing situation, especially with everything transpiring during the USHL season and right on the eve of the prep season. USHR usually has some pretty good info when it comes to New England prep hockey but I’m sure both teams (Lincoln and Gunnery) are trying to make their best argument to get him on their team. If he does head out west you guys will be getting a very good scoring forward. There’s a pretty good chance he’ll be taken by someone in next year’s NHL draft.

  2. Thanks, rocks. If I hear anything on my end…I will let you know. We definitely need some offensive help this season. Great blog you have here, btw.

    • Thanks, you have a good one yourself. I’ve certainly made note of it if Pereira ends up out there or if UMass has another recruit in Lincoln.

too bad the tournament seedings aren’t real as I would really like our chances against CC. joe howe has looked decent in goal for the tigers, but after losing Vlassopolous for the year, and the fact that really don’t have a true scorer anymore after Chad Rau leaving makes me think they would be a beatable team.

    • Sorry, you are not tricking me into discussing pros and cons of tourney matchups in the 2nd week of November. 😉

speaking of playoff matchups, umass and unh always seem to meet in the hockey east playoffs..so this weekend could be a potential matchup, but hopefully with better results than usual.

  4. FYI.

–Lincoln has added forward Michael Pereria to the roster, but he hasn’t committed to coming to Lincoln just yet. He is a top player at South Kent, a prep school in Connecticut. He’s committed to UMass. The head coach at South Kent is reported to have been fired, and Pereria may be looking to make a move. More on South Kent later. Pereria is supposed to be a high-skilled guy with speed. Again, he’s on the roster so if he wants to come to the USHL Lincoln has his rights.
