UNH Wrapup; KAEO Doug Carr; Parker Scores; Alumni Update

Just to put the past weekend to rest here is the recap from the Collegian, complete with a picture of Friday’s celebration, as well as their notebook.

Ron Chimelis has an article about the team’s early success on the power play.

UMass recently had an official visit from goaltender recruit Doug Carr, a Hanover, Mass. native playing in the Canadian Junior Hockey League for the Cornwall Colts.  Carr leads the CJHL in GAA with 2.41 goals per game.  Carr has also lined up a visit with Lowell and is receiving interest from St Lawrence, Union, and Bentley.

When playing for Hanover High Carr was named an All-Scholastic by the Boston Globe.  Carr’s play was described as “spectacular” by the the Herald when he led Hanover with a shutout to the DII title in 2007.  Here’s an article from the Hanover Mariner on his title run from that time.  Both of his brothers played college in Western Mass, one across town at Amherst and another down the road at AIC.  Two years ago Carr was playing in the EJHL.   I’ll update more on Carr as I as I have time.

The Colts have already sent one goaltender to UMass in former Minuteman netminder Jamie Gilbert.

The opportunity for John Parker to play in the World Junior A Challenge may be the spark he needed to get things going in the USHL as he scored his first goal of the season as the Ice fell to Fargo 6-5.  Here’s a nice writeup from the USHL website about Parker and his teammates run for the gold.

Greg Mauldin is leading the Bridgeport Sound Tigers with 7 goals.  Hopefully if he keeps it up he’ll get a call up to the Islanders (though as I write this the Isles aren’t having any problems taking on the Bruins without him).

Meanwhile Jon Quick makes a few of the Kings’ plays of the week.  Quick is currently tied for first in the NHL in wins:

  1. Love Quick but I hope my Flyers destroy him Wednesday. Then he can go back to being good.
