Allen and DelMauro Commit To UMass

According to Chris Heisenberg’s site UMass has picked up commitments from Conor Allen and Chris DelMauro.

Allen is a defenseman currently playing for Sioux Falls in the USHL.  He has good size at 6’1″, 203lbs.  In 16 games he has 2 assists and a plus/minus of +5.   He’s also leading his team in penalty minutes with 36.  Prior to this season he played with St Louis in the NAHL.  Here’s what Sioux Falls had to say when they used their 2nd pick of the 2008 USHL draft on him:

He is a very good skater with good skills,” said Hartzell. “He has raw talent, incredible size and is big and strong with a tough streak to him.” Hartzell also added that Allen has only played defense for the last two years so he has some things to work on, but has great potential.

Chris DelMauro becomes the fourth New Jersey Rocket to commit to the Minutemen, joining John Carlson, John Parker, and Kevin Boyle.  The 6’1″, 180lb forward played in the game I just watched on Sunday when I went to watch Boyle.  Unfortunately not knowing he was a potential commit at the time I didn’t focus in on him enough to remember much about him.  He did get a penalty in the game, which isn’t surprising because he appears to be a bit of a bruiser.  In 10 games with the Rockets he has a goal and 4 assists and 31 penalty minutes.  His brother Mike currently plays hockey at Harvard.

Here he is in the gold jersey during tryouts for the USHL’s Lincoln Stars:

I’ll do some research and hopefully have more on both recruits over the weekend.

Nice…looks like we get some goons to go with our little speedy guys that we seem to covet. Create some room out there.
