More On Vienneau; INCH Hobey Watch

Contradicting what they published yesterday the Star Tribune is now saying OJHL goaltender Joel Vienneau has NOT been offered a scholarship by the Gophers.  I guess we’ll have to stay tuned.

INCH has debuted their annual Hobey Watch feature and amazingly it’s missing both the national leaders in points and goals.

Its funny because they blatantly mention that Marcou leads the nation in scoring in the piece. I don’t know. I don’t think I really care what they say. If he keeps having consistent multi-point nights, I believe he will be in the running come award time.

    • Unfortunately it’s the lack of goalscoring that’s hurting Marcou’s consideration. His PPG is so far above everyone else in the country except for Conacher.

Goalscoring is probably the most important factor in the running for Hobey. That’s why Colin Wilson didn’t win last year, he had plenty of points, but too many of them were assists and not goals. UMass would also have to make the NCAAs and push for a deep run IMO for either him or Wellman to get serious consideration.

also check out this weeks espn college hockey chat on insidecollegehockey.com I asked a question about Marcou winning the hobey and they basically answered as if he has no chance basically because he doesn’t play for a “national power.” some experts…

  4. I’m not sure whether the fan voting aspect helps or hurts Marcou’s chances to make the top ten

    • How would it hurt? In terms of other teams with bigger fanbases will stuff the ballot box for their guy?

Overall the fan vote is just a way to make it seem like they are participating. In actuality their combined vote counts for 1% of the voting. So if Marcou does or does not make it, it’ll probably not be because of the fans. But keep voting anyway just in case. 😉

its only 1% but I see what you mean. Michael Jackson could win the Hobey from the grave because of his massive following, yet really wouldn’t since it only counts for 1%.
