Polls & Awards

In a shocker UMass did not drop out of the rankings following this weekend’s sweep.  In fact they didn’t even drop a spot in the USCHO poll.

They’re essentially in the same spot in the USA Today poll

And they’re just barely clinging to the final at-large berth in the current pairwise rankings, assuming Bemidji wins the CHA tournament.  If someone else would emerge from their post-season tourney, UMass would be the last team out.

UMass is no longer in the INCH power rankings.

Not surprisingly UMass did not have any weekly award winners or top performers.

Hopefully this team can put it together and come up with a 4pt weekend against ‘Mack.

Sweep and we can move back towards the top of the league. Split and we tread water. Get swept and they fall close to the edge of missing the playoffs.

Huge weekend. Now that they’ve faced adversity, lets see if they can put together a strong run to finish the regular season.

    • The season is certainly not over yet and while they’ve made things tougher by having to rely on road wins in order to be successful, they’re not out of it yet. Let’s see what they’re capable of.

It’s tough. They theoretically aren’t dead, but I’m trying not to get my hopes up. They really needed to get 3-4 points last weekend, and laid back to back eggs. Merrimack isn’t playing that bad, and I have concerns about whether or not they can win at the Lawler, where they’ve been very tough to beat. IMO, they need to win 4 of 5 to end the season, and then at least qualify for the Hockey East Semis. A tough road to hoe.

    • At this point I’ll take 3 of 5 to end the season. That’s going to make things very tough for home ice and an at large berth but considering all but one of the games are on the road, I think that may be the best we can hope for.

Friday night at Lawler..kill me now! MC is something like 10-2 at home this year, and the Minutemen are historically awful there anyway. Hopefully they can wake up, but I’m not getting a good feeling about this. I just booked my hotel for Orono though, so I’m optimistic.

    • I know. Last year I vowed never to return to that place again. Ofcourse, I’ll see you there. *sigh*
