Teglia Commits

UMass picked up a big committment from a high profile goaltender in the form of Jeff Teglia from the Omaha Lancers.  Teglia currently has a goals against of 2.34 and .919 save percentage, 4th and 1st in the league respectively.  His 28 wins are 2nd best in the league.  He’ll be coming to Amherst this fall.

Teglia was also being recruited by Michigan, Yale, and Notre Dame.

Here’s the release from the USHL.

I’ll post more on Teglia in the days to come.

This is nice to hear. Getting one of the top USHL goalies can’t be a bad thing…

So is Kevin Boyle maybe not the goalie of the future as we once thought?

    • Boyle certainly struggled in his first season in the AJHL. But at the same time he still seems to have potential. Good goaltending is like pitching, you can never have too much of it. Just ask Boston College this year.

Would like to see Toot go after his teammate Troy Power. Strong power forward that has yet to commit to an NCAA program.

    • Well, if there’s one bright spot to the early defections it’s that there are now some scholarship slots open.

I’ll keep my ears open on Power.

Word is that Power close to signing with M’mack and M’ men have signed a center from the Ont league. Get a clue here coaches…good frickin grief….can’t wait to see the numbers/stats as to who got what.

        • Guzzo from the OPJHL committed to UMass last week, unless you’re talking about someone else. Sounds like a good player. I’m actually happy UMass is getting a defensive forward from that league as the guys who put up tons of offense never pan out. I heard him compared to a Tim Vitek type but likely with more potential.

Can’t get too upset at the job Mark Dennehy is doing selling kids on his Merrimack program. Exactly why he’s at the top of my list when the UMass job opens up.

  5. Am I reading the roster right, UMass might have 5 goalies next year? Or is Boyle coming in in 2011?

    • I would say Boyle would definitely be spending another year in juniors now. Hopefully with Tri-City who own his USHL rights.

Hey Monty, good night for Newmarket yesterday. Hanley assisted on Melanchori’s goal and vice versa.

I don’t know for sure, but I beleive Boyle is still only 17, and I wouldn’t be surprised if UMass asked him to look at the USHL, or at least play another year in the AJHL, which would bring him in for the fall of 2011.

    Toot has one more year.

Just so I can compile my pros and cons list, can anyone give me a reason why he wouldn’t/shouldn’t want to come here?

Let’s just hope John McCutcheon and the gang sees and the knows the opportunity they may come there way. Dennehey has been considered one of the bright minds in college hockey BEFORE this past season at the Mack.

    • The one thing to consider about Dennehy is that he’s a BC guy and could be holding for the job in Newton when York retires.

  9. I have had the chance to watch Teglia in person quite often the past two seasons, so let me tell you guys that you are getting a VERY good goaltender. I wish I could say my team (Lincoln Stars) had good luck against Teglia, but they didn’t. He sports a smaller frame, but he is very quick moving side-to-side. One of the best glove hands I’ve seen in the USHL in years. I always thought last season he was under appreciated, but this season he has received a lot of well-deserved attention from the media. In my opinion, he was the best goaltender in the entire USHL this season.

    • Yeti, thank you very much for those first hand observations on Teglia. Certainly sounds like a great pickup for UMass.

How has DelMauro looked for your Stars?
