UMass has picked up another committment from an Omaha Lancer in the form of Troy Power. Power’s teammate, goaltender Jeff Teglia recently committed to the Minutemen as well. Power is a 5’11”, 197lb forward who has scored 26 goals and 15 assists in 55 games, far outpacing his previous two season totals in the USHL. His goal output is good for 9th in the league currently. His +19 rating is 17th best in the USHL. He also appears to have a bit of a gritty side to him.
Hmm, sounds familiar. California kid, kind of unheralded, suddenly puts up big numbers in the USHL and commits to UMass kind of late in the game. Another Casey Wellman perhaps?
A documentary was actually made about Power’s Orange County bantam team, of which he was captain a few years back. Power was first mentioned on this blog by an anonymous commenter when Teglia committed.
Sounds like a great late season get for the Minutemen who suddenly find themselves with three extra slots to fill for next season. More on Power in the days to come.
