Polls and Awards

Ok, before we move on to the hockey polls, there are much more important ones to consider this week.  I don’t care who you’re voting for, just make sure you go and do so tomorrow.  Remember, you can’t bitch about the current state of politics unless you at least vote.  This message brought to you by all the Polisci and History professors I had in my time at UMass.

Anyway, just as tomorrow’s voting results are likely to turn things upside down, so were this week’s hockey polls.  Miami remains atop the USCHO poll, but BC’s split with Merrimack dropped them all the way to fourth, with Minnesota-Dulth and BU staked out ahead of them.  Taking out the Eagles almost earned Merrimack a ranking this week, but not quite.

Things look about the same over at the USA Hockey/USA Today poll.

Merrimack does earn a spot on INCH’s Power Rankings.

Providence’s performance over the weekend earned them the Hockey East Team of the Week.  Mike Pereira was named one of this week’s Top Performers.  There’s a very good chance Darren Rowe will earn some Hockey East monthly honors when they’re announced in the next few days.

Here’s an article from NHL.com on Jon Quick solidifying his place as the Kings’ #1 goaltender so far this season.  Quick is among the NHL leaders in goals against, save percentage, and wins.

  1. When can Shawn Saunders play?

    • He’s played in one game so far this season. That’s the thing about this deep recruiting class, it’ll be tough for guys like Saunders and Langeraap to get regular time.

There used to be a time when I thought Saunders should be playing in place of Concannon, bur Marc has really developed his game over the years. Tough to say he or anyone else isn’t deserving of time so far.

With the article on inexperience and ability to compete for a full 60 mentioned by coach, maybe it is time for Saunders and some of the upper classmen to play and let the frosh watch and learn.

Saunders was invisible in the game he played and there continues to be a milk carton watch on Brian Keane. Langerapp has never blossomed.
Agree Concannon’s stock has gone up…as long as he doesn’t take the dumb penalty.

Going to be a long year and will need a lot of patience. Or Pepto.
