Polls and Awards

Hockey East has recaptured the top spot in the polls as the BU Terriers are the new #1 in this week’s USCHO rankings.  BU is also atop the USA Hockey/USA Today poll, which has four Hockey East teams in the top ten.

Here’s how INCH’s Power Rankings look.

UMass’ next opponent, UNH, was named Hockey East’s team of the week with their goaltender, Matt Digirolamo the player of the week.

The Collegian recaps the loss to Army and the role of bad penalties in the game.

Dick Baker covers Kevin Moore’s big moment during the game against Sweden.  He also talks about Mike Donnellan playing up front in the exhibition, complete with a picture showing how effective the tactic was.  As I mentioned in my recap of the game it’ll be interesting to see if this change takes hold as it would address a huge hole in the makeup of this team.

I’v sat down with Mike Donnellan a few times, a solid dude. I don’t really know his shot, but I agree on his skating. I think it would be a great move for the team. Every game so far you see players like Pereira and Syner get the puck up ice and then removed from it quite easily. They have nobody down low on the boards in the offensive zone that can actually win the puck. Since this season appears to be lost in terms of team achievement, I say absolutely to keeping him up there. He will probably make some pretty obvious and potentially costly mistakes, but he has played nothing but D since Juniors and most likely a while before that. Next year, the team will be equally small and would greatly benefit from a big guy up front.

gonna be interesting and fun to see the freshman and sophomores progess this year, especially when they start to get into the meat and bones of the HE schedule, and to see if Toot continues to keep running them all out there.

Gotta suck for someone like saunders though.

Will Lecompte come back this season or red shirt? keep hearing this season.

    • I heard the logic behind it, but can’t get into it. But I can tell you it’s not a knock on Lecomte or an effort to shed the older guys in favor of the younger guys.
