Polls & Awards

Typing this up fast so I can watch the USA-Canada game tonight at the World Juniors!

Yale remains atop the latest USCHO poll.  Boston College, which won the Ledyard Tournament at Dartmouth despite a severe shortage of defensemen, moved to #3.  UNH dropped to #4 after losing to St Lawrence at home in overtime yesterday.  Maine remained at #9 after they split in the Florida College Classic.  BU dropped four spots to #14 after a bad 6-1 loss at the hands of Brown out at the Shillelagh Tournament in Illinois.  Merrimack remained at #17 after wins at Army and RIT.  And Wisconsin’s sweep of UMass moved them up two spots to #13.

Much of the same in the USA Today/USA Hockey poll as well as INCH’s Power Rankings.

A sweep where you are outscored 9-3 will not get you a lot of love in the Hockey East weekly awards, though the release does mention the recent success of T.J. Syner and Danny Hobbs.

Speaking of the Florida College Classic, a reader pointed out that it was announced that Clarkson will join UMass and hosts Maine and Cornell in the tournament next year.  Since they’ll likely avoid first round matchups between the two hosts and conference opponents expect UMass to face Cornell to start it off.  I expect slightly better weather than Madison.  Nothing like going to watch hockey in shorts.

BC Interuption takes a look at which teams have the easiest and hardest schedules left in Hockey East.  UMass is determined as the 3rd toughest.
