Recruit Update; Quick Snubbed

Kevin Boyle – G – Westside Warriors (BCHL)
28 GP / 13-13-1 / 2.96 GAA / .904 sv%
Boyle had a game he’d probably like to forget this past week as he allowed 3 goals on 6 shots and only played just over 6 minutes as he was replaced.

Kenny Gillespie – RW – Shattuck St Mary’s (MN)
25 GP / 9 G / 19 A / 28 Pts / 38 PIM
Gillespie scored 2 goals and had 2 assists in the last three games for Shattuck St Mary’s.

Zack LaRue – C/F – Markham Waxers (OPJHL)
39 GP / 26 G / 29 A / 55 Pts / 18 PIM
LaRue was scoreless in his lone game this past week.

Shane Walsh -LW – Dubuque Fighting Saints (USHL)
20 GP / 2 G / 5 A / 7 Pts / 8 PIM
Walsh didn’t play this past week for Dubuque.  Still trying to find if it’s due to injury or what.

Also to note, on tonight’s radio show Eric Filiou was one of the guests and he, Toot, John, and Brock were all talking about the BCHL, where Filiou played his juniors.  I could’ve sworn I heard the coach say that UMass has two players in the BCHL.  He went on to mention Boyle (which is allowed since he already signed his LOI).  I guess there’s is another verbal committment that hasn’t made it to Heisenberg’s site yet or any of the BCHL team sites.  I’ll keep an ear out.

The NHL All-Star Team was announced today and Jon Quick, despite having some of the best stats in the league, surprisingly was not one of the six goaltenders chosen.  Let’s look at the numbers, shall we?

First off, Marc-Andre Fleury was chosen by the fans, so he’s out of the conversation.

Quick Hiller Lundqvist Price Thomas Ward
Wins T-4th T-2nd T-6th T-2nd T-6th T-9th
GAA 4th 13th T-9th T-7th 1st 17th
Save % 14th 3rd 8th 12th 1st 7th
Shutouts T-4th T-4th T-1st T-4th T-1st T-14th

Obviously you can’t argue against Tim Thomas and Jonas Hiller being named.  It’s a little tougher to see Carey Price or Lundqvist ahead of Quick, but you could argue they’ve meant a lot to their teams.  But there’s no way Cam Ward belongs on the team when he’s not even in the top 5 in any major category.  He was picked only because the game is being played in Raleigh.  Which would be fine if he was the only player good enough to be selected, but that’s not the case since Eric Staal is on the team and they also have representation on the rookie team.  Sorry, this is an all-star team, not a “Let’s make sure the NASCAR fans buy tickets” game.  Also, it’s interesting to note that 5 of the goaltenders are from the same conference.  I think for the first time in my life I’m calling East Coast bias on this one.

UMass did get at least one All-Star pick though as Matt Anderson was named to the AHL All-Star team.

Also, Dean Stork will be coaching one of the ECHL All-Star teams as his Greenville Road Warriors had the best win percentage in the league as of January 1st.  Not bad for a rookie head coach.  The ECHL All-Star teams have not been named yet.

Kevin Moore brings us “The Adam Phillips Story”.  I laughed.  I cried.  It was better than Cats.
