Recruit & Alumni Update

Kevin Boyle – G – Westside Warriors (BCHL)
30 GP / 14-14-1 / 2.99 GAA / .903 sv%
Kevin Boyle returned from injury and had two vastly different games this week.  He made 29 saves in a 1-0 win to start the weekend for the Warriors but then gave up 6 goals in a loss the next night.

Kenny Gillespie – RW – Shattuck St Mary’s (MN)
28 GP / 9 G / 23 A / 32 Pts / 38 PIM
Gillespie had 4 assists in the last three games for Shattuck.  SMS is playing as I write this as well.

Zack LaRue – C/F – Markham Waxers (OPJHL)
42 GP / 30 G / 31 A / 61 Pts / 18 PIM
LaRue had a hat trick in his last game for the Waxers, including two shorthanded.  His 6 SHG on the season puts him second in the OPJHL.

Shane Walsh -LW – Dubuque Fighting Saints (USHL)
21 GP / 2 G / 5 A / 7 Pts / 8 PIM
Walsh played one game for the Saints this week and was held off the board, but did have 3 shots in the game.

Danny Hobbs was named UMass Co-Athlete of the Week along with hurdler Tyler Cotto.

Here’s the latest update from the athletic department’s alumni page.

Looking to shake things up with the struggling Kings, Jon Quick is going to have to play better to keep his starting spot.

Justin Braun only played in one game in his most recent stint with the Sharks, going pointless, before returning to Worcester today.

The Avalanche beat writer for the Denver Post hopes Greg Mauldin, who was recently sent back down to Lake Erie, gets another shot soon.  Mauldin put up 3 goals and 7 assists in his 29 game stint with the big club.

Casey Wellman broke his foot while playing for the AHL Houston Aeros and missed about 10 games but he’s already back and even got a shootout goal last night.

Lastly, Chris Capraro’s father was in Lowell to watch his sons’ former schools faceoff and he said that Chris is playing over in Germany and really enjoying it.  He’s playing in Freiburg and is one of the top players on the team.

UMass just got a whole lot closer to being a TUC (team under consideration) in the pairwise rankings.  But only because the Selection Comittee tweaked the formula.
