Recruit Update

Kenny Gillespie – RW – Omaha Lancers (USHL)
5 GP / 0 G / 1 A / 1 Pts / 19 PIM / 0
Gillespie didn’t register any points over the weekend for the Lancers, though I’m doubting he saw a lot of ice time on Friday since he picked up 17 PIM in the game.

Shane Walsh – LW – Dubuque Fighting Saints (USHL)
9 GP / 3 G / 1 A / 4 Pts / 0 PIM / -2
Walsh is on a hot streak, scoring in both games this past weekend and giving him a goal in his last three straight. His goal on Friday was the game winner in a 3-1 win over Sioux City.

A number of UMass home games will be broadcast on WBIN in the Boston area. I know WBIN is channel 18/811 on my Comcast system. Great to see the school extend their reach into the eastern part of the state where the majority of the alumni live. It also reinforces my point yesterday that the school should do whatever they can to show that UMass represents the entire state, not just the university or Western Mass.

This USCHO feature on Mark Dennehy talks about getting his coaching break via UMass and Joe Mallen as well as his time here under Toot Cahoon. It even talks about it his time in one of my former hometowns of Vail, Colorado where he, coincidentally, worked with brother.

Hockey East released their Player of the Month awards for October. No UMass players were honored.

Sounds like maybe the coaching staff should keep an eye on this local goaltending recruit named Moorhouse before he gets pressured to commit to AIC.

    • I was just kidding given the fact that Evan is the son of former UMass play by play announcer Donnie Moorhouse.

And don’t discount goaltenders from the Empire League. That’s exactly where Kevin Boyle was playing when he committed to UMass.
