Recruit Update

Kenny Gillespie – RW – Omaha Lancers (USHL) – 2012
15 GP / 2 G / 3 A / 5 Pts / 23 PIM / 0
Gillespie unfortunately appears to be injured again, or at the very least he did not appear in any games for the Lancers this past weekend.

Willy Smith – LW – Springfield Pics (EJHL/EmpJHL) – 2014
EJHL: 15 GP / 1 G / 1 A / 2 Pts / 11 PIM
Empire: 19 GP / 6 G / 18 A / 24 Pts / 20 PIM
Smith played for the EJHL club, registering 2 PIM in the couple games. Smith also represented the Pics in the Empire League Futures Game that took place yesterday (no record of how he did).

Shane Walsh – LW – Dubuque Fighting Saints (USHL) – 2012
23 GP / 5 G / 7 A / 12 Pts / 0 PIM / –8
Walsh was held without a point in the one game he played in over the weekend, a 4-1 win over Sioux Falls.

USCHO has a great story about everything Scott Crowder is doing to expand the game of hockey, in scope and opportunity, since leaving UMass.

Joe Meloni has a UMass player on each side of his Three Up, Three Down feature.  I think it’s safe to say that Mike Pereira has not reacted as Coach Cahoon had hoped when he made him a healthy scratch against Vermont before Thanksgiving.  He was averaging 1.2 points per game prior to that game, since then he’s only averaging 0.5.  He has dropped from 3.1 shots per game to just 2.4 in that time.  Still the team is 4-2-2 since then as other players around Pereira have stepped up their game.

Matt Vautour highlights the Mullins Magic™ the basketball and hockey teams are enjoying this year.

The awards continue to come in for Steve Mastalerz following his shoutout of BC as he and point guard Chaz Williams were named UMass Co-Athletes of the Week.
