Recruit Update; KAEO Aaron Titcomb

Might as well start writing the recruit update on Monday’s to space things out a bit.

Kenny Gillespie – RW – Omaha Lancers (USHL) – 2012
32 GP / 4 G / 6 A / 10 Pts / 47 PIM / -1
Gillespie assisted on the game winning goal in his only game of the weekend.  The Lancers currently have the second best record in the USHL with just a couple weekends left in the season.

Willy Smith – LW – Springfield Pics (EJHL/EmpJHL) – 2014
EJHL: 21 GP / 1 G / 1 A / 2 Pts / 28 PIM
Empire: 22 GP / 7 G / 18 A / 25 Pts / 24 PIM
Smith’s season is over as the Pics were eliminated in the Empire League playoffs. You can’t blame Smith though as he was the leading scorer for the Pics with a goal and three assists in the two playoff games.

K.J Tiefenwerth – C/W – Junior Bruins (EJHL) – 2012
EJHL: 43 GP / 30 G / 47 A / 77 Pts / 14 PIM
Tiefenwerth had the third most points and sixth most goals in the EJHL this year as captain of the Junior Bruins. He had a couple goals, including a game winner in four playoff games.

Shane Walsh – LW – South Shore Kings (EJHL) – 2012
Dubuque (USHL): 23 GP / 5 G / 7 A / 12 Pts / 0 PIM / –8
South Shore (EJHL): 9 GP / 7 G / 6 A / 13 Pts / 4 PIM
Walsh’s Kings were eliminated by the New Hampshire Monarchs in the EJHL semifinals. Walsh had 2 goals in six playoff games. Next stop for him: Amherst.

I received a tip from a FTT reader that UMass is recruiting Brewster Academy’s Aaron Titcomb.  I’m still trying to confirm this but I thought I’d pass it along regardless.  Titcomb is a 6’4” defenseman who had 6 goals and 9 assists in 20 games as captain for Brewster this past year (not sure if those stats are complete).  There’s not a lot out there about him to pass along but there is this interesting piece from Rear Admiral (of Barstool fame) about him.  He hasn’t had the easiest route to being a college prospect.  After two years playing well at Austin Prep he jumped to the EJHL where things got pretty scary.  According to the story he broke his collarbone in his first game there and then later in the season broke his neck.  It seems that after that lengthy recovery and a couple good years at Brewster (not exactly a powerhouse hockey school) he’s starting to get back on the radar of schools.  I’ll update if I hear anything more.

The Oklahoman has a Q&A with recently signed Mike Marcou.  Apparently UMass wears red, just like the Sooners!

Hockey East has lost another player early as Maine’s Matt Mangene has signed with the Flyers following his junior year.

Chris Hall, graduate assistant for UMass hockey, has started a blog to express his ideas on hockey, coaching, and so on.  In reading what he has so far and if you follow him on Twitter it’s very obvious that Chris has a mind and approach perfect for coaching.
