College Hockey News’ Joe Meloni reported on Twitter this afternoon that Mark Carlson of the USHL’s Cedar Rapids RoughRiders has been offered the UMass head coaching position. FTT will have more information as it becomes available.

Fear The Triangle will always be free. But there is some investment associated with providing first-hand coverage of UMass hockey. Specifically, domain hosting, travel, game streams, and ticket costs all add up. Not to mention the hours spent every day reading and writing about UMass hockey. I'll continue to do this for the foreseeable future even if it runs me into financial ruin (it won't, I think) and my wife divorces me (hopefully just as unlikely). But if you enjoy what you read here and want to show your support, here is a link to contribute to FTT via PayPal.
As always, thanks for reading!

Fear The Triangle is not affiliated with the University of Massachusetts, the UMass Hockey program or any other organizations having to do with UMass (or organizations having to do with triangles for that matter). What you read here is purely the opinion of the owner and frankly his mental state has always been suspect.

/ July 10, 2012Great – Now we can hang in mediocrity forever. He is a great guy, but the BC and BU guys have forgotten more than he will ever know.
If this is true, I am really Bummed

/ July 10, 2012I know all of our opinions don’t matter at all in the grand scheme of things – but we appreciate the opportunity to express them. I have to agree that I don’t get why anyone would announce that the job was offered unless they knew the candidate was going to accept, especially after being left at the altar twice. Having said that, I think Carlson is a better choice than either of the two guys who turned it down. He’s been one of the best coaches in the USHL for many years and this would be a natural progression for this particular coach. Let’s hope he’s the guy and the program can move forward.

/ July 11, 2012What do you guys really expect the players to say? They have to be politically correct to please everyone. Kudos to Rocco for at least hinting to all of the issues the players had to deal with. It was alot worse

/ July 11, 2012I was expressing surprise that Rocco said what he did (because a lot of players wouldn’t). I wasn’t disputing the content of his quotes. For those who follow closely, there wasn’t anything not heard before.
All I said was the quotes were “must read”. If we can ever settle this coaching search is like to revisit them some day. And not to knock Rocco.
