View From Section U ▲ FTT 2015-16 Hockey East Preseason Poll

Usually I reveal my preseason Hockey East poll much closer to the beginning of the season when the previews are really ramping up.  However, since the polls are due to the Hockey East Broadcasters & Writers Association in the next few days I sat down and thought it through a littler earlier than usual.  So here we go.

Recruit Update ▲ Makar Grabs Four Points In Brooks’ Opening Weekend

We’re still a few weeks away from UMass taking the ice for their first game, but the season has already started for some of the future Minutemen.  So let’s take our first look at where the current recruits are playing this season and how they’ve done so far.

Czepiel Hired To Coach At NMH; Vatrano Shines For Bruins

Updates were sparse here as I spent the last few days out in the Mile High air of Colorado where the results of the CU-UMass football game were disappointing but the beer scene was not.  So there’s a lot to catch up on.  There are two pretty major stories to get to regarding Kevin Czepiel and Frank Vatrano.

Countdown: 21 Days ‘Til Dalhousie

21 days until fans get to see UMass in their exhibition game against the Dalhousie Tigers.  Today’s countdown features a newcomer wearing #21 for the Minutemen, forward Ryan Badger.  Badger committed to UMass this past spring after playing the previous two season for the Philadephia Jr Flyers of the USPHL.

Countdown: 22 Days ‘Til Dalhousie

With 22 days until Massachusetts hockey takes on Dalhousie in their exhibition game it’s time to take a look at UMass’ #22 (a number near and dear to my heart).  Wearing #22 this season is newcomer Carmine Buono. It’s hoped Buono will be a key part of the overhaul of the Minutemen’s defensive corps which struggled last year.

Countdown: 23 Days ‘Til Dalhousie

Just over three weeks until we get our first taste of UMass hockey this season.  With 23 days left until the exhibition game it’s time to get reacquainted with #23, Maddison Smiley.  Smiley came to Amherst with the expectation of being an offensive threat from the blueline as a freshman, but for a number of reasons that didn’t quite happen.  Still, Smiley showed that his versatility could potential make a big impact on this coming season and the seasons to come.

Countdown: 24 Days ‘Til Dalhousie

In 24 days UMass will kick off their season with an exhibition game against the CIS’ Dalhousie Tigers.  So it’s time to take a look at #24 on the roster, Dennis Kravchenko.  Kravchenko is coming off a stellar freshman season for UMass and it was a given that he’d be a key to success for the team as a sophomore.  But when Frank Vatrano and Brandon Montour decided to leave school early for the pros Kravchenko’s status changed from being an important part of the team to probably the most important component.

Countdown: 26 Days ‘Til Dalhousie

With 26 days until UMass’ exhibition game against the Dalhousie Tigers we take a look at the newcomer who will be wearing #26 next season.  Forward Joseph Widmar originally committed to Maine but ended up rethinking his choice last fall.  By January he had decided to play for Coach Micheletto and his staff at the University of Massachusetts.

Countdown: 27 Days ‘Til Dalhousie

Under four weeks until fans get their first look at the Massachusetts hockey team in their exhibition game against Dalhousie.  So with 27 days until then, we look at #27 for the Minutemen, sophomore Riley McDougall.  The Calgary native played in 29 games during his first year and, given how he finished the season, will likely appear in many games this coming season as well.

Countdown: 29 Days ‘Til Dalhousie

We are under thirty days until the Massachusetts Minutemen take the ice against Dalhousie in this year’s exhibition game.  Since there are 29 days left, it’s time to look at this year’s #29.  #29 is a special number for UMass hockey, mostly because the last player to wear it was Jon Quick when he led the program to its one and only NCAA tournament appearance.  This year the #29 makes its return on arguably the most anticipated freshman recruit for the Minutemen, goaltender Nic Renyard.
