This week’s recruit update was pushed back a day so I could get my season preview out last night. Here’s how the future Minutemen did this past week.
Shane Bear – D – Brooks Bandits (AJHL) – 2016
6 GP / 0 G / 6 A / 6 Pts / 8 PIM
Bear had an assist in two games this past weekend.
Troy Conzo – RW – Wenatchee Wild (BCHL) – 2016 or 2017
7 GP/ 4 G/ 2 A / 6 Pts / 0 PIM
Conzo had a goal and an assist this past weekend. He has already matched his goal total from the 44 games played last season.
Kyler Nachtigall – LW – Brooks Bandits (AJHL) – 2016 (NLI Signed)

Nachtigall had an assist over the weekend.
Jake Massie – D – Omaha Lancers (USHL) – 2016
0 GP / 0 G / 0 A / 0 Pts / 0 PIM
Massie must be injured. He’s still on the Omaha roster but has yet to appear in a game.
Jake McCarthy – D – South Shore Kings (USPHL) – 2016
0 GP / 0 G /0 A / 0 Pts / 0 PIM
McCarthy is injured to start the year with the Kings.
Ty Pelton-Byce – C – Des Moines Buccaneers (USHL) – 2016 (NLI signed)
3 GP /1 G / 0 A / 1 pts / 0 PIM
Pelton-Byce did not register a point in his most recent game.
Justin Dixson – LW – Tri-City Storm (USHL) – 2017
1 GP / 0 G / 0 A / 0 Pts
Dixson made his USHL debut last weekend but did not find his way onto the scoresheet.
Colin Felix – D – St George’s (RI-HS) – 2017
0 GP / 0 G / 0 A / 0 Pts
Felix is playing for the Rhode Island Hitmen U18 before the high school hockey season starts up in the Ocean State. He has a goal and 7 assists in 8 games.
Nick Jenny – D – Omaha Lancers (USHL) – 2017
4 GP / 0 G / 1 A / 0 Pts / 2 PIM
Jenny did not have any points this past weekend.
John Leonard – LW – Green Bay Gamblers (USHL) – 2017
3 GP / 1 G / 0 A /1 Pts
Leonard scored his first goal in a Gambler loss over the weekend.
Cale Makar– D – Brooks Bandits (BCHL) – 2018
8 GP / 1 G / 8 A / 9 Pts / 2 PIM
Makar had two plays featured on Brooks’ top ten plays of September. #3 was a nice coast to coast that set up a game winning goal in overtime. #5 is Makar’s lone goal on the season, set up by Kyler Nachtigall. (as I type this Makar has just scored his second goal of the season)
Brian Scoville – D – Winchendon (NE Prep) – 2018
0 GP / 0 G / 0 A / 0 Pts
Scoville is playing for the Cape Cod Whalers U16 team before Cushing starts up. He has 2 goals and 5 assists in 15 games so far.

New England Hockey Journal has posted their Hockey East preview.
The play of Frank Vatrano is one of Mark Divver’s 5 things to watch for this season for the Providence Bruins.
Tonight is of course opening night for the NHL. Jon Quick (Kings), Justin Braun (Sharks), and Matt Irwin (Bruins) are the three former Minutemen on opening rosters. But with 7 other UMass alumni participating in training camps that number is sure to grow.
This week’s UMass Sports Insider, airing tomorrow on NESN, will feature a preview of the hockey season.
