Preview ▲ Unbeaten Minutemen Travel To Capital City Classic

The Massachusetts Minutemen hope to continue their strong start to the season as they head south to Trenton, New Jersey where they’ll spend Halloween weekend participating in the Capital City Classic.  UMass will take on the Maine Black Bears in a non-conference matchup on Friday evening before facing either #13 Yale or Princeton on Saturday.  This weekend’s action will represent the beginning of the regular season for the two Ivy League participants.

Recap ▲ UMass Comes Back From 5 Goals Down To Tie UNH In League Opener

“Best tie ever”.  That’s what Friday night’s game had a lot of fans saying as they left the Mullins Center.  It’s rare for fanbases to get really excited for a tie, but that’s what happens when your team comes back from a five goal deficit and, behind four 3rd period goals, gains a league point with a 6-6 result against New Hampshire.  The previous three games had been marked by tremendous individual efforts, but Friday’s heroics were a complete team effort.  The six goals were scored by six different players and 16 different Minutemen registered a point on the night.

View From Section U ▲ UMass Freshmen By The Numbers

The Massachusetts hockey team has a very large, hopefully talented freshman class this year that could be the key to turning around the team’s fortunes on the ice.  Regular FTT readers have become acquainted with them through the regular Recruit Update posts and the recent player features as we count down to the Dalhousie game.  But each year I like to run down each freshman and compare their numbers against other recent Minutemen who have come out of the same junior leagues to see how they stack up.

Countdown: 21 Days ‘Til Dalhousie

21 days until fans get to see UMass in their exhibition game against the Dalhousie Tigers.  Today’s countdown features a newcomer wearing #21 for the Minutemen, forward Ryan Badger.  Badger committed to UMass this past spring after playing the previous two season for the Philadephia Jr Flyers of the USPHL.

Projecting UMass Hockey’s Future Rosters

Those who follow Fear The Triangle on Twitter already got a sneak preview of today’s subject.  BurntBoats, a Boston University fan on Twitter, has been tracking projected future rosters for both BU and BC, showing what the lineup looks like, where the holes are, when recruits are eligible for the draft, and who are the potential flight risks to go pro.  I thought it was good way to visualize such info so I decided to do the same for UMass.  So here’s how the next four seasons of rosters currently look for the Minutemen:

Recruit Update: BCHL Defenseman Carmine Buono Commits To UMass; Iovanna Back In The Fold

The Massachusetts hockey program got it’s second commitment in two days.  Yesterday it was forward Ryan Badger.  Today it was defenseman Carmine Buono.  Buono, a 1997 birth year, played this past season for Powell River of the BCHL where he was teammates with fellow UMass recruit Kurt Keats.  He and Keats also played together for Canada West in the Junior B Challenge this past winter.

Forward Ryan Badger Commits To UMass For This Fall
