Wild Wellman Watch

According to today’s Star Tribune the Minnesota Wild are one of several teams going hard after Casey Wellman.  It says he may play in Minnesota immediately, which is kind of surprising considering how poorly Casey performed in the last few months that he could make that kind of jump:

I have an item in Monday’s paper. The Wild’s trying hard to sign UMass sophomore Casey Wellman, tied for sixth in nation in goals (23). Remember, Chuck Fletcher said earlier this season that he plans to annually dip into the college free-agent market. The Wild’s one of several teams interested. He’s expected to make a decision in the next couple of days. It would not be shocking at all that if the Wild signs him, he’ll play immediately in Minnesota.

Good luck to Casey if he decides to leave. He’s been a joy to watch.

He’s no doubt a prospect, just not sure he’s quite ready. Give it another year Casey. The NHL will still be there and your stock will be higher. If he makes the jump, best luck to him but I hope he waits another year.
