Recruit Update ▲ UMass Recruiting Reset

Now that Coach Carvel and his staff have indicated that they’re done assembling their first recruiting class and we know about the current players who will not be returning next year, it’s time to take a fresh look at where the program is from a recruiting standpoint.  Recruiting is a fluid situation even in normal situations, so it’s been a challenge to try to keep up with all the new names that have recently committed while following which previous recruits are still committed to the school.  I believe all my information is up to date.  So first up, let’s take a look at the future Minutemen due in Amherst this fall.

Weekend Wrap-around ▲ Northeastern Surging

We had  nothing but conference play for the Hockey East teams this past weekend.  Yes, the stretch run has come to the league.  Of the six weekend series, four ended up being sweeps.  The weekend helped cement the gap between the four or five teams with a chance at the league title and everyone else.

Future Minutemen Shane Bear and Cale Makar, both currently playing together for the Brooks Bandits in the AJHL, won gold this past week representing the Canada-West team at the World Junior A Challenge.  Canada-West beat Russia 2-1 in the championship game. Game Preview ▲ What To Watch For Versus Dalhousie

Normally FTT game previews are an in-depth look at the opponent, their strengths and weaknesses, and what the Massachusetts hockey will need to do to gain a win.  For Saturday’s exhibition game against Dalhousie however I’m much more concerned with the Minutemen.  I don’t really care if they get the win or not, as long as they play well.  So let’s take a brief look at the Dalhousie Tigers, but focus more on a few things UMass fans should keep an eye out for with the Minutemen taking the ice for the first time this season.

Recruit Update ▲ Leonard, Buono Listed As Players To Watch By NHL Central Scouting

Happy Tuesday.  Time to take a look at how the future Minutemen are faring.  Before we do that though there was some news today concerning a current player and a recruit.  NHL Central Scouting released their preliminary Players To Watch for the upcoming season and freshman defenseman Carmine Buono and forward recruit and Amherst native John Leonard made the list.  They’re both listed as “C” prospects, meaning it’s projected they’d be picked in the later rounds.
